Problematic issues of exercising the function of state prosecution were discussed at the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office

A training and practical seminar was held at the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, which discussed problematic issues of the prosecutor's office exercising the function of supporting the state prosecution and improving the effectiveness of prosecutorial supervision over the legality of court decisions in criminal cases.

Representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus, the Vitebsk Regional Court, and specialized deputy prosecutors and assistants took part in the seminar.

Prosecutors of cities and districts, the Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor, other prosecutorial staff, as well as judges of the city and district courts of the region were also involved in the event via video conferencing.

The department for supervision over the legality of court decisions in criminal cases of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office developed a thorough program for this training and methodological seminar, consisting of lectures and practical sessions. Its participants discussed typical mistakes made when imposing sentences, issues related to the consideration of civil claims in criminal proceedings, specifics of interrogating victims and witnesses during court proceedings, and the limits of the appellate court's powers.

The speech by Pak Valeryan Viktorovich, Head of the Department of Appellate Proceedings of the Directorate for Supervision over the Legality of Court Decisions in Criminal Cases of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus, was devoted to the issues of the appellate practice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus formed in recent years, as well as mistakes in preparing appellate protests.

In addition to theoretical material, a court hearing was simulated at the seminar, based on the results of which the quality of state prosecution support and the prosecutor's speech in judicial debates were discussed, after which practical tasks were solved.

Seminar participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, share work experience, and discuss existing problems.

Overall, the results of the seminar showed

effectiveness of this form of training in professional skills, allowed to resolve existing problematic issues and contributed to the professional development of prosecutors involved in this area of supervision.
