В Витебске дали старт республиканской новогодней благотворительной акции для пожилых людей "От всей души"

The republican New Year's charity event for the elderly "From the bottom of our hearts" has been launched in Vitebsk.

– The way society treats the older generation is a judgment on its future, – noted Dmitry Demidov, Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, congratulating representatives of the golden age. – In our country, the tradition of respecting elders is passed down from generation to generation. And this continuous connection forms the foundation of a peaceful and prosperous state. We are Belarusians precisely so that no one, whether a labor veteran or a lonely person, is left without attention during the Christmas and New Year holidays, which bring light and warmth to our homes. This campaign, initiated by the head of state, has gained such scale and popularity that almost every public association, work collective, enterprise, and youth consider it their duty in the pre-New Year days to say thank you to people of older age.

"From the bottom of our hearts" is a natural continuation of the New Year's charity event tradition "Our Children". Its message is that youth takes the initiative in caring for the older generation. Thus, it is symbolic that the baton of kindness is passed from children to the elderly.

– We need such events because they unite us all around good deeds, – believes Galina Sharko, who dedicated 38 years of her working life to the justice system. – It is pleasant to gather together, recall our youth, our colleagues, and friends.

Vasily Tselyukanov has been retired for 30 years, but is still on the labor front. He dedicated 27 years of his working life to the militarized fire department in Vitebsk, essentially participating in its creation.

– I graduated from the Fire and Technical School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Leningrad, worked at the oil refinery in Novopolotsk, was the head of an elevator, and now I am finishing my working path of 61 years (!), as a leading engineer for emergency situations and civil defense at JSC "DST-1", – Vasily Ivanovich told a correspondent of "VV". This is the veteran's first time at such an event, and, of course, the celebration is impressive.

On this day, the Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic Hall was filled with an atmosphere of cordiality and generosity, with words of appreciation and beautiful musical congratulations being heard.

More than 260 thousand elderly citizens live in the Vitebsk region, including 20 thousand who are single, 142 thousand who live alone, and 92 veterans of the Great Patriotic War. All of them will receive attention from representatives of local authorities and departments, work collectives, youth, and schoolchildren.
