The mandatory round of the Union State School Olympiad "Russia and Belarus: Historical and Spiritual Community" has started in Vitebsk
Today, about 200 young men and women will write an essay. Long before the start, the participants arrived at their auditoriums. The students have a huge number of preparation hours, readiness to demonstrate their knowledge, and confidence in their abilities!
Vitebsk State Technical College is hosting a large-scale international educational project.
Angela Kudoyarova, consultant of the Department of General Secondary Education of the Main Department of General Secondary and Preschool Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, noted that the Olympiad tasks are always evaluated by points.
– There are criteria: how the topic is revealed, what metaphors and epithets are chosen. Most often, students of the Union State Olympiad show high results. That is, if a participant scores 48-49 out of 50 points, they are already a contender for an award, – explained Angela Kudoyarova. – Students are awarded diplomas of I, II, and III degrees in the individual competition for the 1st and 2nd stages. There is always an absolute winner at the Union State Olympiad – this is a student who scored the maximum number of points. They are presented with a prize from the organizing committee of the Union State. There is also a prize for second place.
Belarusian schoolchildren, the winners, are awarded a prize from the special fund of the President of Belarus for the social support of gifted students. In addition, the Union State School Olympiad is included annually in the list of international Olympiads. This gives eleventh-graders the right to enroll in higher education institutions in the future based on their specialization. In other words, participation in it is equivalent to participation in an international Olympiad.
Zhanna Zhadeiko, head of the Gomel region team, gave parting words to the children before the first test.
– The Union State Schoolchildren's Olympiad is very important for the participants. Perhaps, this is the only international Olympiad where children can check the level of their knowledge and compare it with others. On the other hand, this Olympiad is very important because in our difficult times, we need to be reminded of the importance of friendship, remembering one's roots, knowing the history not only of one's land, not only of one's homeland, and maintaining good neighborly relations, – said Zhanna Zhadeiko. – This Olympiad is very important for us, as in 2004 its start was given in Gomel. We are trying very hard, of course, to give our all, as the children say, 100 percent. I believe that they will do everything to show their knowledge and skills.
Before the Olympiad, I told the children that everything would definitely be fine, that they needed to believe in themselves. They prepared, and there can be no unexpected tasks.
We have a tradition: every time we hold hands, we are one team – the team of the Gomel region, we support each other, we share our knowledge with each other.
Anna Timokhina, a student of Gymnasium No. 2 in Vitebsk, who is participating in the Union State Schoolchildren's Olympiad for the first time, told about her talisman for good luck.
– I prepared thoroughly: I refreshed the main topics in my memory and familiarized myself with new ones, – the girl noted. – I am most worried about linguistics, there is a lot of unpredictability there, and it is difficult to predict in advance what I will have to face. It's scary and always unexpected. But I am sure that I will cope! I have my own rituals before the Olympiads. Today I brought my talisman – a wind-up cat named Kustik. Before each test, I hug him and let the team touch him for good luck!
