In the Vitebsk region, 60 criminal cases for insults and threats against representatives of authority and police officers have been considered

A resident of the Verkhnedvinsk district posted a video on TikTok in public access containing insults against a platoon commander of the traffic police of the Novopolotsk city executive committee. At the end of July, a sentence was passed: the woman was sentenced to three years of restriction of liberty without being sent to an open-type correctional institution.

In total, by the end of the first half of the year, 60 criminal cases for public insults to a representative of authority on the internet, slander, and threats of violence against police officers have been considered in the Vitebsk region. There are 9 more such cases pending in the courts. Vitaly Suzansky, Deputy Head of the Department of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, reminds: serious penalties are provided for such actions.

As the representative of the regional prosecutor's office notes, currently the efforts of destructive forces are aimed at creating a negative image of law enforcement officers. Moreover, residents of the Vitebsk region have now started posting videos of relevant content on the TikTok social network. Such facts have recently been identified in different regions of the region. Partly, this is done, as they say, for the sake of hype.

– For some internet users, the topic of insulting representatives of authority seems fashionable, – notes the deputy head of the prosecutor's office. – By posting insulting videos, slanderers try to promote their video channels and pages, seeking to earn money through a huge number of views of the videos. But they overlook what this can turn into for them. For intentional actions related to inciting racial, religious, or other social hatred or discord, the maximum penalty is up to 5 years of imprisonment.
