Vitebsk celebrates Victory Day to the accompaniment of rain and gusty wind

09.05.2026

On the festive day, the sky over Vitebsk was overcast with gray clouds from early morning. Fine, damp rain, more like autumn, poured down as if through a sieve. Nature had prepared a rather capricious scenario for the residents of Vitebsk. But the bad weather did not deter the townspeople and did not disrupt the solemnity of the moment: May 9 is a special day for Belarusians.

Traditionally, in the regional center, festive events began with the "Belarus Remembers" campaign-procession, which started from Lenin Square. The column was led by the heads of the region and the city. Vitebsk residents of different generations joined this procession: veterans of labor and the Armed Forces, internationalist soldiers, representatives of law enforcement agencies, students of military-patriotic classes, and cadets.
As noted by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, Dmitry Demidov, today is a vivid testament to the fact that in the heart of every resident of Vitebsk region, there is immense gratitude to the generation of victors.
– Despite the weather, tens of thousands of Vitebsk residents and guests of the city considered it their duty to march in honor of the generation of victors and pay tribute to these heroes. I am confident that, despite the years, the great holiday of Victory Day will live in our hearts, and the memory of those events will be passed down from generation to generation. This is the guarantee of our people's existence, the guarantee of the existence of a peaceful, independent Republic of Belarus, – emphasized the head of the Vitebsk region's deputy corps.

The atmosphere of the victorious May has enveloped all districts of Vitebsk. Each district has its own thematic programs. The celebration will conclude with an evening concert featuring creative groups from Vitebsk and the band "Moto-Roller" from Kazakhstan. The concert finale will include the "Let's Sing 'Victory Day' Together" campaign and a festive fireworks display.
