"How many times have we told the world..." – this quote from Krylov's fable can be cited every time cybersecurity is discussed. People are informed, warned about the danger of losing their savings or being involved in a crime, but there are still those who fall into the hands of scammers. Therefore, we have to talk about this topic again and again.
A meeting with young people at the Vitebsk Region Media Center was dedicated to cybersecurity. The participants were told about the main rules that will help them avoid big and small troubles. Yulia Koldybova, Senior Officer of the Cybersecurity Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Regional Executive Committee, explained the necessity of updating computer and phone software.
– This is a kind of digital vaccination. In addition, you need to create complex passwords that will protect you on the internet. Be sure to enable two-factor authentication. If criminals gain access to your password, they will not see the code that will be sent to your mobile device, unless, of course, you install malware that allows them to track everything that happens on your phone. You should not click on any third-party links sent in messages, – explained Yulia Koldybova.
Andrey Denisevich, Head of the Cybercrime Counteraction Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Zheleznodorozhny District Administration of Vitebsk, spoke about some of the schemes used by cybercriminals and how to protect oneself.
– Cybercriminals and fraudsters can involve you in their illegal activities. For example, they offer earnings online that are allegedly related to accounting. You will simply transfer money from card to card and receive a percentage for it. Keep in mind that this scheme is fraudulent, – warned Andrey Denisevich. – You should be distrustful of tempting offers to buy something online with prepayment. There are two rules. The first is to call the phone number, if it is provided, and make sure that such a seller actually exists. And the second is that there should be no prepayment.
Often, fraudsters ask for a phone number, allegedly for testing the internet or developing artificial intelligence, and then use it for their criminal purposes. It is also important to remember that you should not disclose your bank card details or transfer it to other persons. Bank details, like a passport, are personal, they belong only to you.
Elena Korol, Chief Inspector of the Tax Inspectorate of the Department of Taxation of Individuals, explained what declaration is, which is often mentioned by fraudsters.
– Declaration is not related to the transfer of funds to the accounts of other individuals; it is filling out a document. Tax is paid only on the basis of a notice from the tax authority. And an employee of the tax authority will never ask for personal data, income information, bank cards, or information about your personal data. Tax inspectors do not communicate with the taxpayer via Telegram, Viber, and other messengers, only through a personal account or by invitation to the tax authority, – explained Elena Korol.
Igor Syomchin, an inspector for juvenile affairs of the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs, spoke about the rules of conduct for teenagers during the summer holidays.
