Issues of COVID-19 vaccination were discussed at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee

In the Vitebsk region, explanatory work on the necessity and effectiveness of vaccination, as well as the importance of a responsible attitude to health, especially during the pandemic, needs to be intensified. This was emphasized by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, to district heads.

Analysis shows that the Vitebsk region is currently passive in terms of vaccination. While just over 20% of the population has been vaccinated in the republic as a whole, this figure in the Vitebsk region is 18.1% (for example, in the Gomel region – 25.9%). Of course, it is incorrect to create competition in such matters, but one must compare with other regions on how the work is being carried out, Nikolai Sherstnev is confident.

If we take the average number of people vaccinated daily, then in the Vitebsk region it is about 3 thousand people, which is extremely low and incapable of solving the problem. It is necessary to cover at least twice as many people with vaccination, the chairman of the regional executive committee emphasized.

If we look at the vaccination rate by individual social groups, then medical workers are vaccinated at 83.1%, employees of social service institutions – 85.5%, persons residing in institutions with round-the-clock stay – 98.1%. Other categories of the population are very weakly covered by this process.

Given that the spread of COVID-19 began approximately 1.5 months earlier this season than last year, an increase in the number of cases can be predicted accordingly. Therefore, it is necessary to get vaccinated. The analysis of information on cases of illness also confirms this: among those admitted to hospitals, only a few are vaccinated. Moreover, they have a mild form of the disease.

— Therefore, we must not postpone it for better times and take all measures to convey the necessary information to people, to convince them with facts of the need for vaccination. The work should be carried out responsibly and in an organized manner, and the role of heads of work collectives and organizations is important here, said the head of the region.
