A court verdict has entered into force against residents of Novopolotsk, found guilty of committing a particularly serious crime under Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code.

The court verdict against two residents of Novopolotsk, found guilty of committing a particularly grave crime under Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code, has entered into force.

In February of the current year, two young men, aged 18 and 19, were walking around the city in the evening after consuming alcoholic beverages. One suggested to the other to commit robbery from a passerby using violence. Having chosen a victim, who turned out to be a woman returning from work at that time, one of the guys hit her in the face with his fist, breaking her nose, while the second tried to snatch her handbag from her hands. Despite the victim's resistance, the convicts managed to seize her property through joint efforts, which they then divided among themselves. Soon after the victim reported to law enforcement agencies, the perpetrators were identified.

Based on the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court found two residents of Novopolotsk guilty of robbery committed by a group of persons and sentenced each to 6 years of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a correctional colony under an enhanced regime, with a fine of 100 base units.

The verdict was appealed by the defense, but the appellate court left it unchanged.
