Child Protection from Violence: International Experience

Senior Assistant Prosecutor of Vitebsk region for supervision over the enforcement of legislation on minors and youth, Volkov A.V., on April 18-19, 2019, in Minsk, together with colleagues from the Commission for Juvenile Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the healthcare department and the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Regional Executive Committee, Olekhnovich T.V., Mikheenko I.V., Kozyuchits A.K., took part in the 6th International Conference "Safe Belarus for Children: In a World Without Borders".

This conference was organized and held by the International Non-Governmental Association "Understanding", which has been carrying out its necessary and targeted work to protect children from violence in Belarus for 15 years.

In the Vitebsk region, dozens of children suffer annually from violent crimes, including those of a sexual nature. Therefore, the properly established work of prevention entities to prevent cases of violence, especially domestic violence, their detection, and the provision of assistance to already victimized children is of paramount importance.

International experience is invaluable for Belarus. At the conference, doctors, professors of philosophy and psychology from Russia, the USA, Lithuania, and Belarus, representatives of public organizations, and law enforcement officers spoke and shared their experience in helping children in their countries.

Many innovations and proposals from colleagues from other countries are applicable in Belarus and have already been implemented. The implementation of individual measures is possible and necessary in our region as well, which will be the focus for the Commissions for Juvenile Affairs, the Inspectorates for Juvenile Affairs, and healthcare and education institutions.
