Regional Executive Committee meeting: Vitebsk region agrarians plan to start mass harvesting of grain crops in early August
This year, the region needs to harvest 391 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops. This is 9% more than in 2019. The largest share in the structure of the grain acreage is occupied by wheat (151 thousand hectares), barley (70 thousand), leguminous crops (over 52 thousand), and about 47 thousand hectares of rye (of which about 12 thousand are hybrid). "As of today, all districts of the Vitebsk region have joined the harvesting campaign. All winter rapeseed has been harvested, winter rapeseed is 60% harvested (it needs to be fully harvested within 5-7 days), - noted Sergey Egorov. - Farms in the region have selectively started harvesting grain. We plan to start this on a mass scale in the first days of August."
According to him, about 17 thousand hectares of grain crops have been lodged in the region. This will create additional difficulties, but these areas are intended to be harvested first. About 1350 harvesters will be involved in the upcoming campaign. Currently, their readiness is 81%. In the farms of Senno, Tolochin and Braslav districts, this figure is even lower.
The Chairman of the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the regional executive committee added that all flax processing plants in the region have started flax pulling, and about 12% of the areas have been harvested. Not all farms have reached the required pace yet, but they intend to increase it every day.
During the meeting of the regional executive committee, comprehensive plans for the accelerated development of Novopolotsk and Polotsk districts until 2020 were also discussed. Some planned indicators were not met for various reasons. A number of measures for the development of these regions will be postponed to next year.
