Executive Committee Meeting: The work of services in eliminating the consequences of emergencies caused by ice and heavy snowfalls was discussed

The elimination of the consequences of the natural disaster in the Vitebsk region could have been more prompt if all involved services and commissions on the ground had worked more cohesively. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev.

Today, at a meeting of the regional executive committee, the work of all services in eliminating the consequences of emergencies caused by ice and heavy snowfall in late December last year - early January this year was discussed. "We must all learn a lesson from this incident. The problem could have been solved in a shorter period. It was unacceptable that some residents of the region were left without electricity on New Year's Eve. Henceforth, when eliminating the consequences of natural disasters, the actions of all services must be more coordinated," Nikolai Sherstnev stated his position.

10 districts of the region suffered from the elements. At the end of December, due to icing and strong winds, power lines were damaged, including due to trees falling on power lines. There were also blockages on roads and railways from fallen trees. In early January, heavy snowfall hit the western districts of the region. The snow cover reached 30 cm. The Verkhnedvinsk district suffered the most from the bad weather, and there were also problems with electricity there.
