Regional Executive Committee meeting: winter grain sowing areas in Vitebsk region to be increased

This autumn, the Vitebsk region plans to increase the sown areas of winter cereals to at least 300 thousand hectares. This instruction was given by the chairman of the regional executive committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, to the committee for agriculture and food at a meeting of the regional executive committee.

In the Vitebsk region, grain and leguminous crops are to be harvested on an area of 354 thousand hectares this year, of which 200 thousand hectares are winter crops. Almost 30% of the areas have been harvested. Flax processing plants in the region have harvested 1.6 thousand hectares of flax, which is 45% of all harvesting areas. "In autumn, it is necessary to sow at least 300 thousand hectares of winter cereals, taking into account green fodder. The weather permits, so we need to plow the soil and prepare the land right now," noted Nikolai Sherstnev.

The governor also instructed to increase the sown areas of other crops, including flax, rapeseed, and colza.
