Regional Executive Committee Meeting: Over 4,000 hectares cleared of Sosnowsky's hogweed in Vitebsk region this year
"Work has been carried out on an area of over 4 thousand hectares, including 1 thousand hectares in July-August. 60% of the area was treated by chemical means. About Br600 thousand of budget funds and about Br420 thousand of own funds of land users: road, forestry, agricultural and other organizations were spent on these measures," informed Zhanna Oleinikova.
According to her, a comprehensive set of works to remove this invasive plant was carried out quite successfully in the Lepel and Sharkovshchina districts. At the same time, in some districts (Vitebsk, Ushachi, Gorodok, Braslav, Tolochin, Senno), repeated work is necessary, including chemical treatment.
The Chairman of the regional executive committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, drew the attention of the meeting participants to the problem of the spread of hogweed in the region, emphasizing that the issue is being considered for the third time this year and will be discussed further. According to him, there are two months ahead during which it is necessary to work as actively as possible, combining all resources and efforts, without "masking" the data. "We have already reached the home stretch in terms of tidying up the visible areas. This is a huge piece of work. And we need to finish it, remove all accessible foci, including small ones. Next year, we will go deeper into the territory, look at the forests and fields located there. However, we need to identify all land users of these areas already now," the governor emphasized.
