The
council includes 30 members: representatives of associations, enterprises,
establishments, profit and non-profit organizations, business, and the local
community. “One of the goals of the public council will be to promote a
public-private dialogue, public discussion about matters regarding sustainable
development, and people's involvement in the development and implementation of
local initiatives. This will help us get a more comprehensive and detailed
picture of local development, which will contribute not only to the achievement
of the Sustainable Development Goals in Miory District but also to the
development of Vitebsk Oblast and the country on the whole,” the project office
noted. The public council is set to convene in the near future. The first
meeting of the council will focus on drawing up a plan of action and
establishing working groups on various activities concerning the development of
the region. The council was established in line with the international project
“Together for community and nature: strengthening development process in Miory
District via cooperation between local authorities and civil society”. The
initiative is 90% financed by the EU. The project is carried out by the Miory
District Executive Committee in association with the APB BirdLife Belarus
public association and the Latvian Rural Forum.
