Vitebsk Oblast attracts about $1bn in investments every year

10.11.2023  The Vitebsk Oblast economy attracts about $1 billion in investments every year but the region's potential allows getting more than that, learned from Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Aleksandr Subbotin as delegations from nearly 20 countries visited Vitebsk as part of Trade Counselor's Day.

Vitebsk Oblast's foreign trade is estimated at approximately $8 billion, the governor noted. Vitebsk Oblast cooperates with over 110 countries across the globe and with all the regions of Russia.

The Vitebsk Oblast governor said: “The oblast economy attracts about $1 billion in investments every year but we see opportunities for further increasing mutual shipments, including thanks to various state support tools. At the same time the experience of communication primarily with representatives of the private sector indicates that you lack the information that you need. It is important for us to build long-term mutually beneficial contacts.”

The Vitebsk Oblast governor said he hopes that the visit of the diplomats would allow them to determine the most promising avenues of cooperation with Belarus' northern region. He said he expects the guests to form their own opinion about possible realization of business ideas in Vitebsk Oblast and pass this information to enterprises and organizations in the countries they represent.

Delegations from 18 countries visited Vitebsk-based enterprises on 10 November. In particular, they visited the mechanical engineering company Vitstroytechmash, the food manufacturer Vitebsk Meat Packing Plant, and sampled products made by Vitebskmyasomolprom. The diplomats also laid flowers at the memorial complex in honor of Soviet liberator soldiers, Vitebsk Oblast partisans and underground resistance fighters in Pobedy Square.

The itinerary of the trip to Vitebsk ended with a meeting with Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Aleksandr Subbotin and business negotiations. The visit was organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The diplomats are supposed to get familiar with the region's economic, tourist, and cultural potential. The next day the diplomats are supposed to go to Polotsk and visit Saint Sophia Cathedral and Saint Euphrosyne Nunnery.
